Mike Yanda asked:
I have an amplifier for the surround sound in my living room, and the only place to put the dish receiver is on top of it. Do you think it will hurt either of them to do this?

you should not have a problem.
YES!! you can stack electronic devices. If you do not remove the feet from the bottom of the device, you will get all the ventilation required.
The manufacturers take this into consideration when the device is designed - I used to work for a Japanese electronics company, and spent many years as a consumer electronics technician.

no, No, NO.
Your electronic devices generate HEAT and they need vent space to remain cool. Heat is the killer of electronic devices.
The two hottest devices in my rack are my AV Receiver and my Dish PVR. These devices need extra space and I have even removed the back of my rack and installed a quiet AC fan which I use on hot days to improve the venting.
Never Never Never stack your devices on top of each other if they have vent holes on the top. Low power devices like a VCR or CD player - ok, you could stack these because they do not have vent holes.

No, don’t put anything on top of the receiver because all cheap receivers have most of their ventilation on top of the units. You could damage the power supply and fry it after awhile. good luck
